Washington Square, Philadelphia PA
Washington Square is one of the most historic and elegant areas in Philadelphia, centered around the 6.4-acre park of the same name in eastern Center City. It combines colonial history, residential charm, and urban walkability. Washington Square itself is one of the five original public squares planned by William Penn in 1682. Today it is part of Independence National Historical Park and contains the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier, an eternal flame memorial honoring Revolutionary War dead.
Home Types in Washington Square
Residential real estate ranges from historic trinities and Federal-style homes to modern luxury towers as well as converted townhomes into boutique condos. Compared with Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square West often offers slightly lower pricing while still maintaining strong walkability and Center City access. Compared with Society Hill, it generally feels denser, more contemporary, and more active.

Mid-rise and luxury condominium buildings, excellent walkability, a dense restaurant and café scene, proximity to Pennsylvania Hospital, Jefferson University Hospital and Center City offices. It offers a blend of residential quiet streets with active commercial corridors. The neighborhood also contains two major subareas: Midtown Village — known for restaurants, shopping, and nightlife along 13th Street Gayborhood — Philadelphia’s historic LGBTQ+ district, recognized by its rainbow street signs and cultural institutions

The Square itself is on 6th and Walnut but the neighborhood runs from 6th Street to Broad Street and Walnut Street to South Street.
